New City Art

Posted on | January 23, 2010 | No Comments

I’ve been attracted to Art Deco & Art Nouveau since childhood. People often comment that my art borders on or is inspired by these movements, but I’ve rarely done much in the way of homage or even ‘in the style of’ art. One of the reasons is that every time I try, I fail. Often the art that comes from these efforts is good, but neither Deco nor Nouveau.

My agent keeps hoping that I’ll send something retro her way, and since I’d love to I keep trying…

and trying…

and for the first time, I’m kinda happy with the results. Maybe sticking to architectural themes would help? Of course I also gravitate towards Peter Max’s psychedelia & Raymond Savignac’s poster art. But they’re all properly retro, so I’ll spin a pirouette in celebration (if I still can w/o hitting anything) and keep plugging away at the retro thing.

So here are a couple of architectural inspirations from the city where I was born.
